For the Love of Fall

I love fall. I mean *love* it. Fall is my favorite season, the one I eagerly await as others I know embrace the sun of summer, luxuriating in hot, lazy days (which I *hate*). Summer and me…we just don’t quite see eye to eye. Don’t get me wrong, I indulge in the months when I’m not teaching and can work on my writing from home (or from anywhere else for that matter). I’m blessed by having a partner who is also an educator and who also has the summer months off from work. Those summer months are our time together as the school year wears us both thin and runs us in opposite directions most of the time. But the “summer” part of summer…that’s what I don’t like. Maybe it’s my fair skin–the sun actually hurts if I’m outside for more than 20 minutes. Or maybe it’s the humidity–I feel like I’m going to suffocate most of June, July, and August, and I question why I bother taking a shower only to be covered in sweat moments later. No, summer and I aren’t kindred spirits. But fall…fall and I fit together like perfect puzzle pieces.

We’ve been given a miraculous fall here in the Midwest this season. The days have been sun-kissed and cool, but not cold. The leaves have been brilliant. After work, couples, families, and pups are out walking together. The smell of wood-burning fireplaces wafts through the neighborhood. It’s been lovely. I think we all have been appreciating that by this time last year, it had already snowed (maybe even twice).

And so as the leaves continue to make their descent, as the trees become less and less clothed, I wanted to remember the bounty this fall has been. My love of fall, and my awareness of its beauty, has helped me hold onto “right here, right now” many days this past month. Thank you September and October…and even a bit of November.

Beautiful photos. I love Fall too but I am no good with Winter. So I always greet Fall with mixed feelings. It is a good thing to remember the bounty it brings.

Love the pics! As you know I love Fall the best as well. Quinn reminds me almost daily that Fall is also called Autumn. He too loves the Fall in all its glory. He told me he likes it better than Summer too! He maybe a kid after his own Aunt’s heart!

  4. Love it! Nothing else to say…
